It isn't very often an art gallery is presented with an opportunity to showcase a lifetime worth of art. The Art Gallery has been given the chance. Founder and former director of the gallery G. A. Scattergood-Moore has returned display more than 50 years worth of his creations. The show is entitled "Living a Life of Art."
The exhibit, which opened on May 7, 2007 features the work of the former instructor throughout different stages of his life. Curated by current gallery co-directors Michael Frassinelli and Mary Ann McQuillan, the show is unique and inspirational.
"It's really strong," Frassinelli said, describing the exhibit. "It shows 50 years of someone's art work, his dedication to the craft and his continued inventiveness. It's really powerful."
The exhibit features self-portraits, portraits of other artists, imagery and a wide array of drawings and paintings.
Born in Newton, Scattergood-Moore grew up on Cape Cod, attending the Swain School of Design and later Boston University. He began his career at DHS in 1968 as a teacher, during his tenure he also served as department head for 10 years. He resigned in 2006.
The Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday. For more information call the gallery.
A special alumnae/closing reception will be held 4-6 p.m. on June 9.
